The History of Oris Watches

The first Oris factory was opened in Hölstein in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. After first Oris watches were released the brand grew in size very quickly, becoming the largest employer in the area by 1911. By the 1960's Oris were one of the top ten largest watch producers in Switzerland. Oris watches have created a lot of famous watches over the years which has helped build their reputation as one of the best Swiss watchmaker. Oris have created famous watches like the Automatic Movement cal. 645 with 25-jewel lever escapement and the Oris Hong Kong Commemorative Watch, created to commemorate Hong Kong's handover to china in 1997. Oris stopped making quartz watches after the 1980's and only create beautiful mechanical watches today.
