THE BIRTH OF THE CROCODILE
The Lacoste was born amidst the excitement Twenties when a young but very talented tennis player by the name of René Lacoste was making an impression with his elegant game, originality and sense of fair play which was to become a signature of the brand ten years later. The Brand is now known internationally and is widely supported by thousands including Novak Djokovic.
The Lacoste brand has a number of watch collections which have proven over time to be very popular, these include; Capbreton, L1212, Lacoste 12.12, Moon, and Westport. The styles vary slightly from collection to collection however they all feature the iconic crocodile on each of their dials, the watch collections are designed for different situations, some for sport, some for work and some for play.
12:12 Watch Collection
The brand decided to create a 12:12 collection of watches inspired by the French tennis player Rene Lacoste. Rene actually created his first polo shirt in 1927 which was given the product code L.12.12. but many people don’t know why it was given this code or what it stood for so we thought we would break it down for those who are interested. The letter “L” stands for Lacoste the brand name and the surname of Rene, the number 1 that comes after symbolises the “petit Pique” material that was used with the first polo the brand made. The 2 represents the short sleeves and the last 12 is the number of prototypes made before the final product.
