In honour of Earth Month, Luminox and Bear Grylls have launched the pioneering ECO 3720 ‘No Planet B’ watch. The collaboration combines Luminox’s precision watchmaking with Bear Grylls’ adventurous spirit and the innovation of #tide. A symphony of recycled elements, this model is the most sustainable timepiece in Luminox’s portfolio. In fact, each watch removes approximately three 500ml plastic bottles from the ocean; reducing plastic waste and its impact on our environment. Inspiration Behind The Timepiece
With an estimated 14 million tons of plastic waste ending up in the ocean every year, each step to reduce this waste helps to make an impact. Hence the creation of this timepiece. Since 2020, Luminox has been collaborating with #tide ocean materials – a company that turns ocean-bound plastic into premium materials, for their ECO series. The latest release in the ECO series, the watch builds on the success of the well-suited partnership of Luminox, Bear Grylls and #tide. Their commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with their ultimate goal; a future without plastic.

The Case and Dial
This watch exhibits a black dial with a date aperture at 3 o’clock. As well as this, the strong and emotional phrase ‘NO PLANET B’ is visible at 9 o’clock. Acting as a stark reminder of the seriousness of our environmental crisis, it reinforces that drastic change needs to happen now. Ensuring 24/7 visibility in all light conditions, Luminox Light Technology tubes in orange and green illuminate the dial. Moreover, hardened mineral crystal protects the dial, so the durability levels of the watch are excellent. Measuring 42mm in diameter, the case of the ECO 3720 is formed from #tide pellets which can also be extruded into yarn. A black unidirectional rotating bezel, also made from #tide, surrounds the dial. The #tide material starts out as collected plastic waste, which is carefully sorted, cleaned and turned into pellets so that they can be injected, just like the original plastic it was. Aided by the signature Bear Grylls orange screw-in crown, the watch is water-resistant up to an impressive 200 metres.
The Movement and Finishing Touches
Overleaf, the case back features a unique ocean design with the mantras ‘EVERY SECOND COUNTS’ and ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ engraved. The Luminox, Bear Grylls and #tide logos are also featured for an added touch. Housed within the #tide case is a Swiss quartz Ronda 515 movement. Providing both great accuracy and reliability, it ensures that the watch is suitable for whatever adventure you take it on. A black strap, made from #tide, concludes the design of this timepiece. ‘I USED TO BE A BOTTLE’ is printed on the inside, reminding the wearer of its origin.
