Following the success of its pre-existing Aikon Urban Tribe line, Maurice Lacroix unveils a new Aikon Skeleton Urban Tribe model. Debuted in 2021, the Maurice Lacroix Urban Tribe collection infuses the lively spirit of the city into a chic timepiece. However, this new Skeleton edition reimagines this beloved design and extends the urban influence through an evergreen skeletonised dial. Read on for more about the beautiful new design of the limited edition Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton Urban Tribe watch.
Maurice Lacroix AIKON Automatic Skeleton Urban Tribe Edition – Limited Edition of 500 AI6007-SS009-030-1
Dial and Case
Although the whole silhouette is aesthetically designed, the skeletonised dial immediately catches the eye. Enclosed with sapphire crystal, the dial exposes the beautifully elaborate movement. However, in this case, the skeletonised dial is more than just a window into the inner workings of your watch. In fact, it cleverly toys with the same urban roots of the wider collection.
Working closely with Sellita, the brand deliberately designed this calibre to play with different transparencies. As light passes through parts of the movement, it highlights both the multitude of parts and the complexity of their composition. Echoing the overlapping buildings of the cityscape, the resultant design is reminiscent of the city’s bustling nature.
As many can appreciate, one of the main pitfalls of the skeleton dial is its legibility. But, this is far from a problem on the Skeleton Urban Tribe. Impressively, the hands and indices both stand out on the surface of the dial without detracting attention from it. Slightly faceted in their design, the central hands and baton indices feature a SuperLuminova lining that ensures excellent low-light readability. Moreover, a double baton marker accents the 12,3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions to improve the dial’s clarity. As a finishing touch, a dark grey flange frames the design.
Housing the design is an ornate stainless steel case. At 39mm in diameter, it is a versatile size that sits well on many different wrist shapes and sizes. But, of course, its central appeal is its beautiful intricate detailing. Inspired by motifs from metropolitan architecture, concrete, glass and steel structures, tribal-looking patterns are laser engraved onto the case’s exterior.
Movement and Finishing Touches
Indeed, the stunning laser engraving does not stop at the lugs. It extends onto the model’s five-link stainless steel bracelet, which integrates seamlessly into the case. On closer look, each link follows its own unique decoration. From afar, this gives the watch it’s distinctively striking appearance.
However, if you’d prefer to wear one of your existing Maurice Lacroix straps, changing the strap is trouble-free with the the brand’s Easy Strap Exchange System. This allows you to refresh the look of your watch quickly and easily, without the need for any tools.
Aside from aesthetics, there is lots to love about the Skeleton Urban Tribe’s movement. As visible through the dial, beating at the heart of the watch is the brand’s exclusive automatic mechanical ML115 movement. Using an SW200 as its base, features like the oscillating weight have been sandblasted and sunbrushed for an even more beautiful appearance. Other components also have circular graining and colimaçon, epitomised the Maurice Lacroix level of attention to detail.
With the original Urban Tribe model selling out so swiftly, we anticipate that the Skeleton edition will surely follow in its footsteps. And, with just 500 pieces available worldwide, the competition to get your hands on a new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton Urban Tribe is even steeper. So, be sure to snap one up for yourself before it’s too late!
