Today, Rado releases the Cameron Norrie x Captain Cook special edition watch. Limited to just 823 pieces, the launch The collaboration comes after Rado’s longstanding association with both tennis and Norrie, who became a brand ambassador last year.
Born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand, Cameron Norrie has represented Great Britain in tennis since 2013. Following a promising junior career, he became the US’s top-ranked male college tennis player whilst studying at Texas Christian University. In 2021, he joined Rado YoungStars and broke into the ATP Top Ten for the first time one year after. Recently, Norrie defeated world No. 2 Rafael Nadal and No. 9 Taylor Fritz at the 2023 United Cup. Currently, he ranks No. 13 globally.
A truly dynamic and talented young tennis star, the new Captain Cook special edition is the perfect piece to commemorate Norrie’s achievements. The launch is limited to just 823 pieces, which reflects Norrie’s birthday on 23rd August. Without further ado, let’s get stuck into the core specifications of this stunning new model.
RADO Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie Limited Edition (42mm) Green Dial / Stainless Steel (823 Pieces) R32149318 / R32.149.31.8
Dial and Case
At the centre of the model is a green fumé gradient dial, a shade reminiscent of a tennis ball. Although on the surface the watch follows the classic Captain Cook design, it has several other tennis-inspired easter eggs too. For example, to accent the 12, 3, 6, and 8 o’clock positions there are tennis ball-shaped markers on the flange. Whilst the choice of an accent at 8 o’clock seems peculiar, it is deliberate. Just like the number of pieces available, it’s a nod towards Norrie’s birth month.
Marking the rest of the positions on the dial are luminescent baton indices. As typical of other Captain Cook models, these take on a slightly larger shape at the four principal placements. Paired with these are the three silver-framed hands anchored to the centre of the dial. In comparison to the slender minute hand, the hour hand is chunkier with an arrow tip. Meanwhile, the second hand ties in the other tennis-themed detailing and is accented by a lime green tip. As an added functional detail, the dial also features a date display next to 3 o’clock.
Framing the design is a polished rotating bezel with a high-tech green ceramic insert. Upon it are engraved numerical markers filled with matte white SuperLuminova. It rests on top of the watch’s stainless steel case, which measures 42mm in diameter and 12.3mm in thickness. With its hearty build, it locks in an impressive 300 metres of water resistance. Assisting this is the model’s high-quality sapphire crystal, complete with an anti-reflective coating on both its interior and exterior.
Movement and Finishing Touches
Beating within the watch’s sturdy case is Rado’s own R763 calibre automatic mechanical movement. Generously, this calibre boasts a hefty 80-hour power reserve, which keeps the watch ticking to perfection.
Overleaf, there are several other details that will delight both tennis and watch enthusiasts alike. The case back is also sapphire glass, which offers the wearer a view into the watch’s inner mechanism. As an added detail, it also features Cameron Norrie’s signature in white to further pay homage to the player. Moreover, each piece features an engraving of its unique edition number.
Completing the elegant yet sporty silhouette of the model is a classic three-link stainless steel bracelet. Adding dimension to its design are the brushed central links, which create a contrast with the polished outer links. Although it comes fitted with the bracelet, the Rado Cameron Norrie x Captain Cook edition generously comes with two extra straps too. The first is a black leather strap with white topstitching detail, perfect for dressing the design up. The second NATO-style strap has more of a casual feel and features a green and white stripe design.
