Iconic design

To celebration this historic anniversary Eterna Watches have released the KonTiki Diver Gentleman’s Bronze Limited Edition continues the magnificent story of the KonTiki adventure with a bold and highly recognisable design. The spectacular new model features triangular luminescent hour markers in white that contrast against a jet-black, granite-patterned texture dial that provides excellent legibility, while a unidirectional rotating bezel surrounds the face with an easily readable no decompression limits scale. This no decompression limits scale provides divers with a useful backup to their diving computers as it indicates the amount of time a diver can spend at a particular depth before he will have to decompress.

The Eterna KonTiki Diver Gent Bronze Manufacture is ready for adventures above and below sea level with a water resistance of 200 metres making it the perfect watch for international adventurers. The brown leather strap is treated so that it is also water resistant and works well with the bronze highlighting its lighter case.

This special collection is limited to only 300 pieces making it not only the perfect piece of kit for any  modern dat adverterur but also a stunning collectable piece that can be passed down to the next adventurer so that they may embark on their very own adventures.

The beauty of bronze

For many years bronze has been used in nautical engineering and manufacture and ships have relied on this metal alloy for centuries due to its exceptional strength, resistance to rust and erosion. Bronze shows almost no signs of corrosion even when it is in constant contact with salt water. This makes  it the perfect choice for the watches case of the adventurous Eterna Diver Gent Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition.

Bronze is able to resist the aggressive corrosive properties of salt water thanks to patina which develops a layer of green or brown copper oxide as it superficially oxidises this protects the watch from the elements as well as making each and ever watch unique due to the patina developing differently for each owner and wearer of the watch.

The ever adapting colour and aged weathered look makes this a highly appreciated and sought after model by watch wearers. It is the only material famous enough to be used for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the famous KonTiki expedition due to its vintage look and longstanding relationship to the sea.

The Daring and Dangerous KonTiki Mission

In 1947, the Norwegian ethnographer and renowned explorer set sail with his crew of scientists on a voyage across the Pacific Ocean on a hand-built raft determined to prove that ancient civilisations could have crossed the seas using primitive sailing crafts built from the things around them. Equipped with only the most basic of instruments—except for a communications radio and six Eterna timepieces. The expedition was a massive success, marking new understanding in the migration of populations, and the beginning of one of the most iconic watch collections—The Eterna KonTiki.

The Pioneering Spirit

The timekeeping equipment to the KonTiki expedition had to be chosen carefully and it came with great responsibility, the sailors would be exposed to the elements for months on end and so would the equipment they would be using. Eterna was the perfect timekeeping tool for the expedition as it not only was Eterna known for having a long and reputable history of manufacturing watch movements that were extremely accurate as well as hard wearing but it was a brand that had mastered water resistance.

Pioneering has long been part of Eterna’s philosophy. The Eterna brand revolutionised the automatic movement in 1948 by equipping it with a rotor that turned on ball bearings. Named the Eterna-Matic, the system has become a standard feature in automatic movements today and feature sin their logo.

In 2006, Eterna patented the Spherodrive which was a new technology that allowed the rotation of the movement’s barrel using ceramic balls on three concentric rings. This invention has been incorporated into the brand’s Calibre 39—an automatic movement built in-house that is not only the engine inside the Eterna KonTiki Diver Gent Bronze Manufacture Limited edition, but is also the movement for over 88 different Eterna movement references today. From a simple manually wound calibre with two or three hands, to an automatic chronograph, the Calibre 39 is the perfect showcase model of the brand.

The production of this movement has been highly industrialised with optimised assembly for the greatest quality and performance, providing utmost precision and reliability for the new Eterna KonTiki Diver Gent Bronze Manufacture Limited edition today.
