Maurice Lacroix has announced the release of the limited edition Aikon Quartz Chronograph. To honour the relationship Maurice Lacroix has with the Beachvolley Vikings, Anders Mol and Christian Sørum. The duo has been dominating beach volleyball tournament after tournament. Achieving international success, it appears nothing can get in their way, much like their ancient Scandinavian namesakes. By joining the Maurice Lacroix team, the brand wants to ensure the duo has every tool they need to succeed, and that includes an exclusive timepiece.
Anders Mol and Christian Sørum have reaped great success over the last few years. They swept up 10 gold-medals from 2018 to 2019 at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The duo has also been European Beach Volleyball Champions three years running. Mol and Sørum are the third team in history to win the championship three consecutive years, and maybe even more impressively, the youngest.
Both Mol and Sørum were greatly involved when it came to creating and designing the limited edition Aikon Quartz Chronograph. The beachvolley stars wanted something they can wear off and on the court with the same level of comfort and ease. In the limited edition, Maurice Lacroix met and even exceeded their needs for lightweight, durable construction.
The limited-edition watch uses the Aikon as it’s base. The Aikon line was created while the brand was in search of a more refined modern silhouette and was first introduced in the 1990s. Using a mix of finishes and blending classic elements with more contemporary ones, the watch manages to achieve an unrivalled sporty-chic style.
The case on the model is made of stainless steel and measures 44 mm in diameter. securing the watch is a lined rubber strap. The material guarantees higher durability and comfort, especially in the adverse conditions of a beach volleyball game. Polished elements on the bezel add interest to the design. The colour palette of the watch is inspired by the Beachvolley Vikings’ team colours or red, blue and white. The colours not only show support for the team, but their vibrancy gives the watches a distinct youthful tone. The rubber strap is red with a blue line down the centre, bordered by white stripes. The red dial has a sunray finish. Contrasting it are chronograph subdials in blue and white. A white minute scale with black markings guarantees ease of readability, ensuring you don’t waste a moment on the court. The baton hands of the model are luminescent.
The watch is water-resistant to up to 10 bars or 100 meters and is also shock-resistant. A quartz movement was chosen for the timepiece due to their higher precision and reliability. Apart from hours and minutes the watch features a date display and a small second’s subdial at the 6 o’clock position, a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and a chronograph seconds central hand.
The Vikings limited edition Aikon Quartz Chronograph is limited to 250 pieces.
