DELMA’s history with divers watches starts in 1969 with the release of the Periscope, their first automatic divers watch. Since then DELMA has been dedicated to continuously update and innovate their designs and models. Now 45 years later, after the release of the brands first professional divers watch in 1975, DELMA has announced an exciting addition to its Cayman collection, the Cayman Worldtimer. The collection, first introduced in 2019, is inspired by those first professional models. It honours the original design but improves on the features and includes modern cutting-edge technologies.
The Inspiration
Keeping adventurers in mind, The Cayman Worldtimer is created to suit those who wish to explore the vast known and unknown waters and peaks of our world. From oceans to caves, DELMA offers its exceptional expertise in exploration to the bold and daring in the form of its newest model. The Worldtimer keeps true to the collection’s vintage-inspired look and high-end functionalities with the addition of a world timer mechanism.
The Design and Functions
The watch has 24 reference cities on the bidirectional bezel, one city for each timezone. The bezel is rifled and made of aluminium. The screw-down crown, as well as the round case, are made of polished or brushed stainless steel. Three different colours are available for the sun-ray dial – rich deep blue, sleek black and gleaming silver. The model has a domed crystal made of sapphire for increased protection against scratches.
Large luminescent indices and hands make the dial easy to read in any situation. The hours and minutes hands have a classic sword shape. The seconds hand and added 24-hour hand are thin and sleek, ending in an arrow. The dial also includes a day aperture at the 3 o’clock position. The model boasts either a strap or a bracelet. Both the genuine leather strap and the Milanese style bracelet evoke the vintage inspiration behind the collection’s design. The leather strap comes in black or blue colour with contrasting top-stitching.
The Movement Type
The Worldtimer is available with an automatic or quartz movement. The automatic movement has a power reserve of up to 50 hours and is water-resistant up to 500 metres. A unique feature on the self-winding model is also the exhibition case back. It reveals the intricate details of the watch’s inner working mechanism and the custom DELMA rotor. The models with quartz movements are water-resistant up to 200 metres.
Alongside its philosophy of aiming to consistently surpass expectations, DELMA has a dedication to constantly innovate its products. This has resulted in the creation of outstanding timepieces for decades and has put the brand at the forefront of new trends in the watchmaking industry. The Cayman collection is a testimony to the desire of today’s world to preserve tradition but also move forward and modernise. DELMA has expertly combined those otherwise conflicting needs. With the addition of the Worldtimer to its ever-evolving catalogue, the brand reminds those brave enough, to venture outside of the familiar and seize the extraordinary no matter where in the world it might be.
