It was only last week that we were talking about the brand new Alpina Alpiner Quartz Edition, which is available to purchase here now! But today we are looking at yet another brand new model from the brand. Throughout the History of Alpina watches, they have consistently produced fantastic timepieces. These latest models pay homage to this. Two new Alpina Seastrong diver heritage timepieces complete the introduction of the first re-interpretations.
Back in 1969, the first Alpina 10 Super Compressor diving watch was introduced. This model came fitted with two crowns, one for changing the time, and then another for adjusting the internal rotating bezel. This bezel was used to measure elapsed time through a 1-60 minute scale, a feature that made this a fantastic diving tool.
This original Alpina ‘Seastrong’ watch was also water resistant up to 200m (20 bar), and was anti-magnetic too. The model had an iconic case style, and was known as for this super-compressor characteristic.
To pay tribute to this historical collection, Alpina have launched the Seastrong Diver Heritage.
This latest model is much more than just a replica. According to Alpina, this is a modern interpretation of pure Swiss watchmaking. featuring classic aesthetics, and a corner stone to any vintage diver’s watch collections.
It is hard to disagree with Alpina, as this model retains the charm, and timeless design of the original, yet has been updated to suit modern day life. Rather than hoping the tried and tested formula would still work, Alpina have adjusted, and created a watch that has been resized, with new upgraded functionality too!
To suit modern living, the new Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage sits in a 42mm bronze colours PVD-plated stainless steel case. This case has only slightly been enlarged, as it looks to follow the trend of modern watches. Of course, we still see the double-crown design that makes this model so iconic, one at 2 and one at 4 o’clock. The top crown, used for adjusting the inner diving bezel has a grid-like pattern, with the lower crown being used for time adjustment.
This heritage model has also been upgraded when it comes to water resistance too. Boasting a 300m water resistance over it’s previous 200m, Alpina have made this an even more functional diving tool.
one of the most notable differences between the original, and the modern day interpretation is the movement inside the watch. The Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage comes fitted with an modified automatic movement. The base for this movement is the Selita SW 200, which has then been taken by the Alpina technicians and turnt in to the caliber AL-525 movement. This automatic movement is a 26 jewel, self-winding caliber, with a fantastic 38 hour power reserve, and 28,800/h frequency. This means that the internals of this watch are up to date with the best watches around, and helps to keep timekeeping precise and reliable at all times.
As I previously mentioned, there are in fact two new versions being released. Both are very similar, with minor differences for you to choose between! An elegant brown dial can be paired with either a brown or cream coloured rotating inner bezel, with brown or beige markers too. Both of these models come on slightly different shades of brown leather straps, and both feature a date window at 4 o’clock. The design is then completed with rose gold plated indexes and hands with white luminous treatment!
Overall, these latest Alpina watches show fantastic accuracy and a retro look making it a timeless everyday watch.
