‘Christmas Shopping: When Should I Start?’ – Our Tips and Tricks

Make a List and Set Budgets

Before any Christmas shopping starts, it’s a sensible idea to create a detailed list of everyone you need to buy gifts for. From boyfriends to brothers, write down everyone’s name alongside potential gift ideas and budget limits. This way, when it comes to starting your shopping, you’re prepared and know exactly what you need to purchase. By making a list, you also eliminate the chance of you going over your budget. As tempting as it can be to overspend, especially if you love gifting gifts, it’s only going to lead to financial stress post-holidays. So create a spreadsheet, track your spending, and your money going out should be exactly as predicted from your Christmas shopping list.

Start Early

Although it sounds like we’re stating the obvious, one of the best ways to ensure you don’t run out of time is to start early! Many think the middle of November is too early, however, we think it’s the perfect time to start. By beginning your shopping during this period, you sidestep the rush. Navigating less crowded shops and having an overall more enjoyable experience, what’s not to like? As well as this, you’ll avoid the last-minute price hikes and the shipping delays that often come in December. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and by starting your Christmas shopping in mid-November, you’re eliminating any potential risks.

Make the Most of Any Sales

This tip follows seamlessly into our previous one; make the most of any sales! By starting your shopping in mid-November, you have both Black Friday and Cyber Monday to take advantage of. From tech gadgets to home appliances, and so much more, these days of deals are the ultimate time to buy any bigger presents. Not only will you be getting them out of the way sooner, but you will be saving a good amount on them too!

Use Online Shopping Wisely

Shopping online can save time and help you avoid the holiday crowds. Typically, this is far easier than a physical shopping trip as you don’t need to pencil a specific date in the calendar. Online shopping also means you can do bit by bit, which works much better for some people. However, this means you will have to be aware of the latest shipping dates and make notes so you don’t miss them. And it’s for this reason that we say use online shopping wisely! If you can physically go into a shop and buy said gift, we always recommend doing so. But if you can’t, why not try a click-and-collect option? This cuts down a fraction of the time and also eliminates the risk of a present getting lost in transit by a delivery company.

It’s important to remember the more Christmas shopping you plan and complete in the earlier stages, the less stressful the remainder of the period will be. While there is no correct date to start shopping, we suggest to start as soon as you can! Create your lists, set your budgets and most importantly have fun!
