In exciting news, Seiko has announced its all-new Prospex Speedtimer watch! A European exclusive, with 2,400 pieces available, this timepiece is inspired by the aesthetic of classic red European cars from the 1960s. Launched in 1969, Seiko’s Speedtimer was the world’s first-ever automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch. While updated for the present day, with its solar movement, the classic chronograph design remains the same. And with nods to the cars of the past, the timepiece oozes retro flair. A European Exclusive: Seiko Prospex Speedtimer in Factory Red
The Case and Dial
Inspired by the aesthetic of 1960s classic European cars, the matte red textured dial features three black sub-dials and a date aperture at the 4:30 position. In addition to this, the dial exhibits silver-tone baton indices and hour and minute hands with a LumiBrite coating. The second hand and power reserve indicator hand are both orange. Not only do they add splashes of colour to the design but they also echo the speedometer of a vintage car. For optimal clarity and durability, curved sapphire glass, with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface, protects the dial. Seiko’s Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; and thanks to these features, this model makes no exceptions.
A sleek stainless steel case frames the dial. Measuring 39mm in diameter, it is an inclusive size that sits comfortably on most wrists. A tachymeter bezel also frames the dial, and through this, the wearer can measure the speed at which they travel over a fixed period. Moreover, aided by the screw-down crown, the watch is water-resistant up to 100 metres.
The Movement and Finishing Touches
This European exclusive features an in-house V192 solar-charged movement. Accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month, it provides the watch with a 6-month power reserve at full charge. Sure to never let you down, due to its great precision, this Seiko is the ultimate companion for everyday wear. This movement also allows for a variety of chronograph functions. From a chronograph up to 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments to a small seconds hand and an overcharge prevention function, the movement ensures reliability and practicality.
A stainless steel bracelet, with a three-fold clasp with a secure lock and extender, secures this European exclusive to the wrist. Sleek and sophisticated, it is the perfect finishing touch to this timepiece. But, if you’re after a more vintage look, fear not as this watch also comes with a brown puched leather strap. Designed in classic car interior detail style, the strap emulates the steering wheel, seat covers and seatbelts alike.
