Seiko ‘Silfra’ Prospex Tortoise – European Exclusive Limited Edition
This new Seiko watch is inspired by the clearest water in the world and the craggy moss-covered terrains that surround it. Silfra in Iceland is positioned between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. These plates drift further apart each year, creating one of the world’s most iconic diving destinations. Silfra is the only place in the world where divers can explore the fissure between two continents. The water in Silfra is filtered through lava over the course of 100 years, making it the clearest water in the world. With waters to inspire divers and incredible landscapes to inspire adventures, Silfra makes amazing inspiration for this Seiko timepiece.
The Dial and Movement
This watch exhibits a very deep green textured dial. The dial is adorned with luminous hands and indices alongside a date aperture. The second hand is a bright orange colour, making it easy to track on its journey around the dial. Anti-reflective sapphire glass protects the dial. The anti-reflective coating is vital for an outdoor watch as it combats the glare created by light hitting the glass. The dial is framed by a green-to-black gradient rotating bezel. This bezel features a compass-style design emphasising the adventurous inspiration behind the timepiece. An automatic calibre 4R35 movement powers this watch. It provides up to 41 hours of power reserve.
The Case and Finishing Touches
The case of this watch is crafted from stainless steel. It is designed in Seiko’s iconic ‘Tortoise’ shape. This shape is named for its comfortable wrist shape and land inspiration. It measures 42.4mm in diameter and 11.7mm in depth. The case achieves a water resistance rating of up to 20 bar, aided by its screw-down case back and crown. The design of the watch is completed with a stainless steel bracelet that is secured using a three-fold clasp with a push button release. The watch also comes with an additional grey nylon strap that gives a fantastic level of durability.
