In very exciting news, Oris has launched the all-new Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser watch! This launch will come as thrilling news to fans of the brand as it gives a favourite model a unique new look. The watch uses the familiar form of the ProPilot X Calibre 400 that was first introduced in 2022. The new model has been produced in collaboration with a research lab that is affiliated with the prestigious ETHZürich University. Oris’s independence and enthusiasm to work with young innovators have inspired the creation of the stunning new timepiece.
The ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser
This brand-new watch features a shimmering dial that is produced using an innovative lasering technique that has never been seen before in Swiss mechanical watchmaking. The technique creates a colour-changing effect, shifting from blue to green to violet, as the dial is moved. This effect is based on the principles of biomimicry. It specifically relies upon a natural phenomenon called optical interference. This means that red light waves are destroyed while blue and green waves are reflected. This amazing effect means that the colour shift effect is created with absolutely no colour pigment on the dial. This inventive treatment is a surface manipulation that splits light into its components. This creates a rainbow that changes depending on the viewing angle.
Everything on the dial is created using lasers. A different laser is used to create the logo, indices, minute track and dial text. This laser managed to create the look of traditional applied indices. The hands have also been filled with black Superluminova to ensure the dial can be read in the dark. Oris has decided to omit a date aperture from this new model to allow the stunning dial to take centre stage.
The Details
The innovative dial is protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystals, allowing a perfect view of the unique colour-changing effect. A 39mm titanium case frames the dial. Titanium is considered a luxurious material in watchmaking due to its lightweight and hard-wearing properties. Titanium is also used to create the titanium bracelet of the watch and its folding clasp.
As part of the ProPilot X Calibre 400 family, this watch is equipped with a mechanical Oris Calibre 400 movement. This automatic movement has a game-changing 120-hour power reserve and better than chronometer accuracy. Combined with class-leading levels of anti-magnetism and reliability, these features ensure that this timepiece is one of the most luxurious and dependable on the market.
