Fortis has added to its impressive portfolio with an exciting Fortis Novonaut launch! These new watches represent a new chapter in space exploration – an area Fortis already excels in. The brand has spent three decades setting the gold standard in space with the iconic B-42 Official Cosmonauts and the new models are the next generation. The Novonaut watches are being tested by space agencies to be the first Mars Mission watch. This impressive association make the Fortis Novonaut the perfect timepiece for any space enthusiast and lover of horological technology.
The Exciting Fortis Novonaut Watches
The design of the new watches is reminiscent of older Fortis models, taking inspiration from the brand’s impressive heritage. They are the ultimate successor of the Official Cosmonauts. Fortis states that the Novonaut is engineered to dominate the cosmos. The launch consists of five timepieces, with four core models and one limited edition timepiece. The core models are available with either cobalt blue or black dials. The cobalt blue dial can be paired with a stainless steel bracelet (F2040012) or blue hybrid strap (F2040013). The black dial models are available with either a stainless steel bracelet (F2040008) or a black hybrid strap (F2040009).
The Dial and Movement
The dial of both the blue and black models features a weekday and date aperture alongside a column wheel chronograph. This provides the wearer with a multitude of features that allow them to keep a close track of passing time. The dials are detailed with Superluminova to ensure they can be seen at nighttime and in space. Each dial is protected by anti-reflective sapphire glass to provide a good level of durability and scratch resistance. A bidirectional Sirius bezel frames each dial. The bezel matches the colour of the dial and is made of ceramic. The watches are powered by the space-approved Fortis Werk 17 movement. This provides the watch with a 60-hour power reserve, so the wearer should never be left without the time.
The Case and Finishing Touches
The automatic movement is safely housed in a case that is made from recycled stainless steel. The case measures 42mm in diameter to ensure a bold, yet comfortable, fit on the wrist. The case features a smoked sapphire crystal case back to allow the wearer to enjoy being able to watch the movement of their watch. In addition, the case features a screw-down crown that is equipped with a triple gasket system.
The watches are available with either stainless steel bracelets or hybrid straps, providing the wearer with a choice to ensure their comfort. The watches are water resistant up to 200 metres, meaning that they can be worn for most water-based activities.
