Ever fancied yourself a big fan of The Muppets? Today, Oris announced their new ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch. Combining playfulness with high-quality watchmaking, the brand has taken a break from the utilitarian seriousness that can dominate Swiss watchmaking.
The Kermit is a special edition that expands their ProPilot X line, which was released last year. A product of Oris’s collaboration with Disney+, this light-hearted design celebrates everyone’s favourite puppet amphibian, Kermit the Frog. By incorporating a childhood icon into their design, Oris’s intention was to encourage people to bring enjoyment into the everyday.

The Dial and Complementing Touches
Oris are not ones to shy away from a colourful dial, and this model is no exception. Other ProPilot X models have featured vibrantly coloured dials, but none quite like the Kermit edition.
As implied by the name of the collaboration, the dial is a (very) bright green. Fun but far from overbearing, the lime green colour alone already sets forth the joyous essence Oris intended. The white indices and luminous hands only foreground this cheeriness, allowing it to unapologetically take the limelight.
However, the best part of the dial is the date display. Dubbed by the brand as ‘Kermit Day’, a cheerful Kermit will be displayed in the date window on the first of every month. As per Oris’s intentions, being welcomed into each month in such a humorous way is definitely a positive way to start it. Through this novelty but light touch, Oris demonstrates how a dial design does not need to be excessive to be playful.
The Case and Movement
Onto the more pressing specifications. With Oris’s automatic Calibre 400, the Kermit boasts anti-magnetic ability and a 120-hour power reserve. According to the brand, this calibre was long-awaited and took six years to develop, so you can be guaranteed of its quality.
The characterful dial is housed in a multi-piece titanium case, which measures 39mm in diameter. Enclosing the dial is domed sapphire glass, which is coated with an anti-reflective layer on the inside. On the reverse side, the exhibition case back is crafted from sapphire crystal, so you can see the full inner workings of the watch. Other functions include hour, minute, and seconds hands, a date corrector, and a fine timing device. With up to 100 metres (10 bar) of water resistance, the Kermit is more than just a novelty piece.
Finishing touches
Paired with the design is a multi-piece titanium metal bracelet, which contrasts the dial. This sophisticated finish perfectly counterbalances the Kermit’s lightheartedness, making it suitable for everyday wear without appearing juvenile.
