What is a Flyback Movement?
These brand-new timepieces are unique as they are equipped with a flyback movement. The Flyback function is intrinsically linked to Longines’ rich heritage. It was first seen in a Longines watch in 1925, and the brand filed for a patent on the 12th of June 1935. The patent was registered on the 16th of June 1936. The function gives pilots a practical and fast way to successively time different flight stages to facilitate navigation.
Flyback is an additional function of chronographs. The function provides many advantages in terms of time and speed, making it perfect for demanding environments, such as those pilots find themselves in. It works with the press of a pusher which resets the chronograph’s direct-drive second-hand. This immediately restarts the timing from zero. A single press allows three functions (stop, reset and restart) simultaneously, unlike conventional chronographs.
The Brand-New Longines Spirit Flyback Watches
This exciting launch from Longines consists of five exciting designs. Available in blue with a choice of a stainless steel bracelet (L38214936) or a blue leather strap (L38214932). Alternatively, if a black dial is preferable, this option is available with a brown leather strap (L38214532), stainless steel bracelet (L38214536), or a beige NATO strap (L38214539).
The Dial and Case
The watch is available in a choice of a striking black or bold blue dial, ensuring there is an option for everyone. Each dial is detailed with a chronograph display alongside bronze-shaded hands and Arabic indices. Both the hands and indices are detailed with Superluminova so that they can be seen in all light conditions. Refined aesthetics and meticulous finishes are sure to make these timepieces stand out from the crowd. A ceramic bezel frames each dial. The bezel is the same colour as the dial of each timepiece for a cohesive design. In addition, the dial and its features are protected by anti-reflective sapphire glass.
The case of the Longines Spirit Flyback timepieces are crafted from stainless steel. Each case measures 42mm in diameter and 17mm in thickness to create an eye-catching and flattering look on the wrist. The case features an exhibition case back that reveals the calibre within. This also allows the wearer to observe a weight that is engraved with the globe that represents the Spirit collection and the name of the Longines Flyback.
The Movement and Finishing Touches
The brand-new watches are equipped with cutting-edge technology. Each model is built with a new and exclusive Longines calibre. This calibre features magnetic resistance alongside a silicon balance spring. It provides the watch with up to 68 hours of power reserve. In addition, this movement is a certified chronometer by the COSC. This certification is a true testament to the precision and excellence of the calibre. Each of the new timepieces is water resistant up to 10 bar, aided by the addition of a screw-down crown.
