Today, Seiko has announced the incredibly exciting all-new limited edition Seiko ‘Laurel’ watch. The Seiko Presage Takumi ‘Laurel’ is a 110th-anniversary edition of one of the brand’s original timepieces. This watch is especially exciting for dedicated fans of the Seiko brand as it is limited to just 2,500 pieces worldwide. This limited number means that it is sure to be a very desirable and collectable addition to any collection. The watch has been designed to commemorate 110 years since Japan’s first wristwatch, created by Seiko in 1913 – the ‘Laurel’.

This launch is one of the Presage Takumi craft designs, making it an incredibly special addition to the Seiko family. It is heavily inspired by the design elements of the first wristwatch of the same name. This inspiration is especially prevalent in features including the proportions, lug shape, font and colour palette of the wristwatch. The Seiko Presage collection inherits over 100 years of watchmaking tradition. This family of watches remains true to its values of Japanese precision and beauty, making it the perfect collection for this brand-new limited edition timepiece.
The Dial and Case
The dial is the star of the show in this watch. It is made using white enamel and has been recreated by a skilled Japanese artisan craftsman, Mr Yokosawa. He has used traditional heritage enamelling techniques to replicate the striking dial of this original ‘Laurel’ watch in this new, modern re-release. The dial is decorated with black Arabic indices in a pleasant cursive font. The signature red hour marker at 12 o’clock reflects the design of the original watch Blue hands are set at the centre of the dial and a sub-dial is positioned at 6 o’clock. The dial and its features are protected by sapphire glass to ensure a good level of durability. A stainless steel case frames the dial. It measures 37.5mm in diameter and 12.6mm in depth to create a striking look on the wrist.
The Movement and Finishing Touches
This timepiece flawlessly combines old and new by seamlessly mixing vintage design with modern technology. The watch is powered by an in-house automatic 6R27 movement. This movement provides up to 45 hours of power reserve, meaning that the wearer should never be left without the time. A vintage-style brown leather strap secures this watch on the wrist. This feature emphasises the heritage of the timepiece whilst ensuring comfortable wear. In addition, this watch is water resistant up to 5 bar, making it a practical choice for daily wear.
