Mühle Glashütte is perhaps one of the lesser-known brands in the industry. However, it never fails to produce incredibly high-quality timepieces. This week, Mühle Glashütte announces the Titanium SAR Mission Timer. The brand prides itself on precision, robustness and readability, and this latest model is no exception. Mühle Glashütte’s designers place value on maintaining high standards in every product they produce. The brand creates marine time systems, marine chronometers and nautical instruments alongside wristwatches. This variety showcases the brand’s ability to build precise and reliable time-keeping instruments that will perform to the highest capacity, even in the most challenging environments. This latest model is heavily inspired by The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service. Each element of the design of this watch has been carefully considered to best serve the brave people who work in this service.
Who are the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service?
The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service is responsible for maritime search and rescue in the German areas of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The service has 60 sea rescue cruisers and boats which are run by 180 permanent employees and 800 volunteers. They take on around 2000 missions every year. This incredible and life-saving service is financed exclusively by donations. Since the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service was founded in 1865, the crews have rescued more than 86,000 people. This watch has been precisely designed to be the perfect companion for the foremen of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service.
The New Mühle Glashütte SAR Mission Timer TITAN
The all-new SAR Mission Timer TITAN has been launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this iconic model. The watch is lightweight and easy to wear and will be well suited to surfing, hiking tall peaks, or even a simple jog. The sporty and functional design of this timepiece lends it to a huge variety of activities and occasions.
The Dial and Movement
This new model exhibits a black dial with intensely luminous hands and indices. Allowances have been made in the design of the dial to fill these features with more of the Superluminova material, ensuring they are very visible in the dark and underwater. A date aperture is also featured on the dial. It is positioned at 4 o’clock so that it does not distract from the other features. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial and ensures that it can be read without any glare. The watch is powered by an automatic movement of the calibre SW400-1. This movement provides the watch with up to 41 hours of power reserve.
The Case and Finishing Touches
The distinctive feature of this model is its titanium case. Titanium is a very desirable material in watchmaking as it is incredibly lightweight and durable. This means that it strikes the perfect balance and creates a comfortable and easy-to-wear fit on the wrist. Another stunning feature of this watch is the case back. The watch is limited to 63 models, and each model features an entirely unique case back. Each case back is engraved with one of 63 sea rescue cruisers or boats in the current rescue fleet. This detail makes every model very collectable, and a treasured part of any watch collection. The case also features a screw-down crown which aids with the water resistance rating of 50 bar. This timepiece is secured on the wrist using a black rubber strap that fastens using a titanium safety clasp and extension.
