Honestly, who doesn’t love a wedding? We can’t think of anything better than dancing, cake and being in the intoxicating presence of deep love. Though wedding guests don’t have a lot of responsibilities and are generally just expected to have fun, there are still one or two customs or conventions you might need to follow. The most important of these, of course, is don’t upstage the bride and groom. This involves both clothes and jewellery. Avoiding this is easy when it comes to clothing as the rule is basically don’t wear the same colour as the bride (unless instructed so BY the bride). A lot of people, however, don’t consider that arriving in full bling, decked in diamonds from head to toe might also be slightly inappropriate. We’ve prepared a guide to wedding guest jewellery to give you some quick ideas on styling.
Jewellery Set One: Sleek and Modern in Rose Gold
If we’re honest you can never go wrong with keeping it super simple and classy with plain metal jewellery. Opting for a bling-free look, however, doesn’t need to look drab. You can definitely experiment with texture, shape and colour if you go for plainer jewellery. An additional plus is you’ll almost definitely save some money on your wedding outfit!
For this set, we’ve paired the Skagen Wave Drop earrings in rose-gold toned plating (SKJ1537791) with the Drop Pendant necklace, also by Skagen. (SKJ1566791). Both pieces are made of stainless steel. The earrings’ abstract design is reminiscent of nature in their leaf-like, almost fluid shape. The pendant on the necklace continues the “water” motif through the shape of the pendant. Subtly positioned on the inside of the pendant is a small white crystal. The crystal is intended to catch the light and make the pendant shine similarly to a water droplet.
Jewellery Set Two: Regal Green and Gold
Now we understand that you might love gemstones and diamonds. Trust us, we do too. We agree that certain outfits just aren’t complete without at least a little sparkle. If you’d still like to wear your gems the key is to keep it from looking too bridal. Pearls and big diamonds might not be the best way to go. Coloured gemstone jewellery, however, is perfect for weddings! It adds just enough glamour without outshining the happy couple.
As our second recommendation, we decided to curate this beautiful gold and emerald set. The rich green jewel tones and the warmth of the gold give off an almost regal, elegant tone. The pieces we went with in this set are the Gold Open Circle necklace (GN353), the Elements Gold Emerald and Gold Deco drop earrings (GE2304G) and the Swarovski Exalta Bracelet in green (5643756).
The necklace and earrings are both made by Elements Gold and are both 9-carat yellow gold. The necklace’s oval pendant gives the look a more modern appeal with its asymmetric rounded design. The earrings, on the other hand, have an undeniably classic silhouette. Their Art Deco-inspired design contrasts the contemporary necklace. They are decorated subtly with diamonds and feature larger emerald-cut emerald gemstones. The Swarovski bracelet completing this set combines simplicity and glamour. The bracelet features 8 round-cut green Swarovski crystals to match the emeralds on the earrings.
Jewellery Set Three: A Subtle Explosion of Colour
If monochrome is not your style, why not try the whole rainbow? If you want to wear a really really bold piece, like the earrings featured in this set, we suggest your other pieces are more subdued. This will keep your look from being too busy and loud and will make you appear that much more put together. You can definitely create an eye-catching wedding look without being too much.
For set number three we decided to go with two pieces from the Swarovski Lilia collection. The gradient pink butterfly necklace (5636420) and the multicoloured butterfly drop earrings (5636425) convey our point of choosing to be bold in a sophisticated way beautifully. Each of the drop earrings has five butterflies connected to each other via a rose gold-toned chain. The butterflies are all pave set in different colours beginning with pink, red, yellow and green, then purple and blue. The last Swarovski Lilia necklace in our opinion stands out on its own, but paired with the earrings creates a truly one-of-a-kind flurry of colour and life. The rose-gold toned necklace features butterflies as if in flight. The butterflies are pave set in orange and pink Swarovski crystals.
Jewellery Set Four: A Timeless Look in Gold and Diamonds
Next in our guide to wedding guest jewellery is gold and diamonds. They are a classic combination for a reason. Both gold and diamonds are timeless and any pieces you have you’ll most likely be able to wear all the time separately or even together for other outfits as they are just that versatile. The trick with wearing this combination to a wedding is to, again, keep it from looking too bridal. A gold diamond necklace or a gold bracelet can quickly be mistaken for bridal jewellery if not worn correctly.
This is why for set number four, we’ve chosen pieces which, on their own, are more informal and simple in style. Their detailing and the finishes of the necklace and bangle make them appear casual. An elegant formal dress, however, will then take this jewellery and elevate it to appear much more sophisticated.
The pieces we chose are a faceted 9-carat gold bangle (J45605), simple diamond-set circular gold stud earrings (ED312) and 9-carat yellow gold necklace with a hammered finish on the pendant (GN337). The Elements Gold necklace pendant features 5 irregular rings connected by smaller, diamond set rings.
Jewellery Set Five: Diamonds are Forever
If you simply love the look of diamonds and white gold, our tip is to take your favourite piece and build the outfit around it. Keep the other pieces subtle or completely omit them. Diamonds are not hard to style if you follow the above guidelines.
For this last fifth set, we chose pieces which have an undeniable modern appeal. The focal point is the 18-carat white gold diamond ring(J31005). The unique design of the ring makes it a perfect centrepiece to build an outfit around. Due to its style, it elevates the rest of the jewellery. The 9-carat white gold drop earrings (GE2192) are set with diamonds. Their design is reminiscent of dripping water. The single diamond necklace (NDQ134W) with its minimalist tone balances the more extravagant ring and earrings. Every diamond in all three pieces is set with a bezel setting. This keeps the whole look cohesive and put-together.
