The popularity of the brand’s bracelets is due not only to the exquisite craftsmanship but also due to people’s desire to showcase their individual style in a simple and easy way. Nominations bracelets allow anyone to memorialise experiences and events in a subtle way that you can keep close. The history of Nomination jewellery marks a humble beginning. Read the article below to learn how an idea created one of the most successful jewellery products to date.
The beginnings of Nominations
The brand was founded almost 40 years ago in the 1980s in Florence Italy. As a brand Nominations is greatly influenced by its birthplace. The brand’s website proudly displays the words “There’s no source of inspiration and creativity more powerful than Italy”. Founder Paolo Gensini finds great inspiration in the nature and culture of his country. Gensini’s connection to Italy began in his childhood growing up in a farming community.
Later in his life, having gained experience as a goldsmith and metalworker, Gensini saw the potential in stainless steel. At the time, the material was mostly avoided in jewellery. This, however, didn’t stop him from designing and creating a jewellery piece that would revolutionise the way steel is seen by jewellery makers and consumers alike. Paolo Gensini was driven by the desire to create beautiful high-class jewellery at an affordable price. The creation of the modular men’s and women’s bracelets saw immediate success in Italy. The Composable line introduced the bracelets as we know them today.
At first, the collection consisted of a line of modular bracelets with 18 links each. Each link could be replaced with a ‘charm’ that featured a gold letter. This allowed people to spell their own names or those of family and friends. The bracelet quickly rose in popularity and by the mid-90s to early 2000s Nomination bracelets were known around the world. Over time the brand added more letters as well as symbols, stones and crystals. This made it possible to have truly unique and customizable bracelets and realized Gensini’s dream of giving emotions a name.
The design behind Nomination’s success
Each bracelet is made of stainless steel. All links are interchangeable and attach to each other through an ingenious spring mechanism. The design of the links on the bracelet also distinguishes it from other available charm bracelets. Instead of dangling charms, each design is soldered flat onto the main stainless steel link.
