In order to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Sinn have launched an all new Sinn 60th Anniversary watch. The Sinn brand does not have a long history, but the 60 years it has have been jam packed with adventure. Sinn watches have been sent to space and to the deepest depths of the ocean to prove the robustness and reliability of the brand’s designs. This model will be no exception as it take the form of Sinn’s iconic 144 sports chronograph.
As the watch is a special edition, it has been limited to only 600 pieces worldwide. This makes the watch incredibly desirable and collectable to horological enthusiasts and fans of the brand. The watches are all uniquely numbered to emphasise their individuality. They will each come with a black silicone strap and a black stainless steel bracelet which will be presented in a special box.
The 144 Watch
The Sinn 144 watch was first launched in 1974. The brand refer to it as being one of the most traditional watches in the range, so it seems only fitting that this is the model that has been chosen to celebrate such a momentous occasion. This watch is a demonstration of how Sinn is continuously improving and evolving its technical instrument watches by adding and changing features in line with emerging materials and technologies. The 144 watch has come a long way since the original models. The first editions of this timepiece used mineral glass and were only pressure resistant up to 5 bar. The modern iterations of the 144 are much more robust and use newer materials.
The Dial
The all new Sinn 60th Anniversary watch features a black dial with three sub dials. The sub dials positioned at 12 and 6 o’clock are black, and the one at 9 o’clock is white. The dial also exhibits a weekday and date aperture in the 3 o’clock position. Typically for a 144 model, the watch has a tachymeter and pulsometer scale around the outer edge of the dial. The indices, hour and minute hands and the number 60 of the pulsometer scale are coated with luminescent colour to ensure for easy readability, even in the dark. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial to ensure for a robust and long-lasting finish.
The Movement
This new watch is powered by a Concepto C99001 self-winding mechanism. This movement uses 25 bearing jewels and 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour to power the watch. It features a seconds stop function and is anti-magnetic as per DIN 8309. The movement can be viewed through the exhibition case back which is made of sapphire crystal. It is rather ornate with blued screws and a striped rotor, so watching it work will be a pleasurable experience.
The Finishing Touches
The case of the new Sinn 144 Anniversary watch is made of bead-blasted stainless steel. It measures 41mm in diameter, 14.5mm in case thickness and 20mm in lug width. Without a strap, this watch weighs 90 grams. Every element of the design of this watch ensures for the wearer’s comfort without the need to sacrifice any of the technical brilliance. The case is coated with Sinn’s Black Hard Coating on a TEGIMENT Technology basis.
The case back and crown are screw fastened, providing water and pressure resistance of up to 20 bar (around 200 metres). This ensures that the watch meets the technical requirements for waterproofness, as set out in standard DIN 8310. The watch is also resistant to low pressure, meaning that it can be worn in almost all conditions without the need to take any additional precautions. Sinn has also included its Ar-Dehumidifying Technology in this timepiece. This technology slows the ageing process of the movement and prevents fogging within the watch, allowing this timepiece to retain its brand-new look for decades to come.
The Straps
As this is a special edition watch to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Sinn brand, it is presented with two different straps which come in a special box. The first strap is a stainless steel, two-link bracelet. The stainless steel is treated with Sinn’s Black Hard Coating and the clasp is embossed with the brand’s logo. The other strap is made of black silicone and can be integrated into the case. It fastens with a small folding clasp that is treated with Black Hard Coating and embossed with the Sinn logo.
