Over the years Longines has undoubtedly made a name for itself. Starting as one of the original experts in timekeeping, the brand’s knowledge of elegance, accuracy and design has placed Longines at the forefront of horological progress. The brand’s long history is nothing if not inspirational. Its long-standing tradition informs not only how the brand handles innovation, but how it treats its history. Longines knows how important it is to learn from your past. The brand often pays homage to its history through its Heritage collection. Watches of historical importance and milestone models are often replicated for the newer generations to enjoy. The Longines Heritage Classic watch is a great example of the brand’s dedication to staying faithful to the original model.
Design Elements
The inspiration for the Heritage Classic comes from the 1930s. In typical fashion for the period, the watch has a sectioned dial. The model is presented with a brown leather strap as well as a “grain of rice” style bracelet. Most of Longines’ Heritage models only sport a leather strap, but the brand has decided that the bracelet would be the perfect unconventional addition. Inspired by the 1940s, the bracelet is comfortable and easy to wear. It is also historically accurate for the time period which Longines’ trying to emulate. In addition, if you choose the strap, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. The pull-up leather used to make the strap will show signs of wear over time as a result of the process used to make the leather. This makes each model completely unique to its wearer and beautifully retains the history of your journey.
The case measures 38.5 mm in diameter and is made of stainless steel. As mentioned above, the dial is sectioned. Each section features a different finish for a more intricate design. The outer anthracite ring, for example, has a brushed finish. The inner dial is matt and nicely complemented by a circular-finished small seconds subdial. The dial is contrasted by silver-coloured hour-markers and hands. The watch also benefits from a sapphire crystal with several layers of anti-reflective coating.
Movement and Features
The Longines Heritage Classic watch benefits from the L893 calibre automatic movement which was developed especially for the Heritage line. A silicone-balance spring increases the magnetic resistance of the watch. The movement beats at 25’200 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of up to 72 hours. An element that might not be immediately obvious is the position of the seconds subdial. It has been shifted down in order to replicate the historical model more closely. The watch is splash-resistant and contact with water should be avoided.
