A Brief History of the Brand
Bering was launched as a watch brand in 2010, led by founder Michael Witt Johansen. Johansen was greatly inspired by his father’s travels around the Arctic. His father travelled these parts of the world for around 25 years and would always return home with tales and images of his great adventures. Johansen’s fascination with the Arctic began at an early age and continues to inspire every timepiece and accessory the brand creates.
The brand was named for the Danish sailor Vitus Bering. Bering set sail in 1728 and crossed the straits that would later be named the Bering Straits in his honour. Bering would become the first European to discover Alaska, furthering his status as an accomplished adventurer. The Bering brand continues to honour the name of Vitus Bering by designing their watches with extraordinarily hard materials and an iconic slim design. This ensures that each timepiece they create is robust and long-lasting, characteristics that are reminiscent of the traits necessary for a trek across the Arctic.
Each accessory that Bering creates is a perfect combination of Arctic beauty and modern, timeless Danish design. The style of the brand’s watches and jewellery is characterised by its clear, streamlined forms and pure elegance.
