This watch is engineered to be the ultimate mountaineering instrument. To aid in ascension and help the climber assess the situation and decide on the next step forward the timepiece has a built-in altimeter. The lowering air-pressure is recognised by the watch and signals on the watch’s subdial signalling different a new weather system approaching as well as allowing the wearer to keep track of the altitude. The altitude dial at the 3 o’clock position shows the air pressure in hPa and the altitudes up to 9000 metres. After its launch, the Favre-Leuba Raider Bivouac 9000 was praised for being the first watch to display altitudes that high.
Other features on the watch include hours, minutes and small seconds. The dial features a power-reserve indicator, a date aperture and a small second’s subdial. Its red central hand displays altitudes of 3000 metres per full rotation. The watch has a hand-wound movement FL311 movement, a 65-hour power-reserve with exclusively designed mechanisms for the altimeter and the power-indicator indicator.
The watch is built with robust and lightweight materials to ensure comfortable and long-lasting wear. The characteristic for Favre-Leuba pillow-shaped case is made of titanium. It has a bidirectional bezel with an anodized aluminium insert. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial. The watch’s large crown is screw-in to protect the mechanism. Luminescent pencil-shaped hands and thick rectangular indices contrast the dial. Created in two variations, the watch comes with either a grey antelope leather strap and a stone grey dial or a grey antelope leather strap and a black dial.
