After a lot of speculation and excitement, the Garmin fēnix 6 has now been announced! We knew that this collection of models was on it’s way, but now we get to take a closer look at exactly what the fēnix 6 will bring to the table!
The Garmin fēnix 5 range has been hugely popular since it’s release, and is still expected to continue as a flagship model for the brand. What the fēnix 6 brings is a new alternative, rather than a replacement! Of course, it is the latest, newest, most up to date line of watches that Garmin now produce, but just like anything in life, you have to choose what suits you best!
Take a look below to find out what is new from the fēnix 5, and what makes the fēnix 6 range so special!
The New Garmin fēnix 6X Pro Solar
Part of the new range is the fēnix 6X Pro Solar, the first ever Garmin GPS capable watch that offers solar charging. This model has been designed with Power Glass, a transparent solar charging lens that uses sunlight to charge the battery of the watch. This is extremely unique, as most solar powered, or eco-drive watches on the market contain a solar module within the dial , rather than the glass itself! Because of this unique solar charging technology, you will benefit from extended on-wrist time, with more time to enjoy activities, training, colour mapping, music streaming, and even more!
Similarly to the fēnix 6X, the fēnix 6X Pro Solar features a large 1.4″ sophisticated, yet rugged sunlight-readable display, which is 36% larger than the previous fēnix 5X models. On the fēnix 6X Pro Solar, you will be able to check the latest solar input on the go, so you know exactly how much energy the Power Glass has been exposed too, a great feature to help keep you on the go! The full battery performance on this model, whilst in smartwatch mode is said to be 21 days, plus another 3 whilst utilizing the solar charging capabilities!
The Garmin fēnix 6 Series – Pro & Sapphire
Both the fēnix 6, and the fēnix 6X are powerful multipsort GPS watches, that have been constructed for a trimmer, more comfortable fit on the wrist. The display has been increased to 1.3″ and 1.4″ respectively, from the existing fēnix 5 and fēnix 5 plus. In addition to these larger display’s, Garmin have also introduced new QuickFit nylon bands and silicone colours. The sapphire editions add the quality and durability that comes with scratch-resistant sapphire lens, and additional high-performance premium materials.
PacePro
The fēnix 6 series introduces a first-of -its-kind PacePro feature, a feature that keeps a runner’s pacing strategy on track with grade-adjusted guidance as they run a route. This technology allows them to create plans directly from the timepiece, or ahead of time by using the Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile app’s. Whilst running the route, runners will be able to see their target split pace, as well as the actual split pace, distance to the next splt, and how much time they are behind/ahead of the target. All of this can be seen on the go, on the wrist to make for easier use and quicker times.
Advanced Mapping & Music
Mapping is one of the most desired features for modern sports watches, a feature that Garmin have been providing for some time now. These maps are now even more advanced than ever. Right out of the box, the fēnix 6 series will include topographic maps for all kinds of outdoor adventures. Including maps for over 2,000 ski resorts worldwide, and 41,000 golf courses too.
The 6 also comes set with on-device storage for music too, allowing for up to 2,000 songs, and allowing users to sync playlists to the watch from a number of the most popular music services. All without the use of a phone.
Garmin fēnix 6 Power Management
Power management is always a key element for users, and now power usage can be customized to suit your needs. Using the all new Power Manager, users will be able to see and control how the watch’s different settings and sensors impact battery life. This will give you more confidence, knowing if the adventure will last until the next charge. Remaining battery life will be represented in hours and days to help determine how long you have left. Users will be able to select a number of battery saving modes, disabling certain features to allow for an extended battery life on the go.
Improved & New Features
All models from the Garmin fēnix 6 range include enhanced wrist-based heart rate monitoring. This is a system that will monitor HR, and stress all day long. You will also benefit from underwater heart rate monitoring for swimming, as well as Pulse Ox, which is a blood oxygen saturation monitor which supports advanced sleep monitoring and altitude acclimation.
Additionally, Garmin’s innovative Body Battery energy monitoring system will allow users to see their own energy levels at any given time. This feature is particularity helpful when it comes to scheduling workouts, rest breaks and sleep. Combining data from stress, heart rate variability, sleep and activity, a higher Body Battery will indicate an optimal time to be active, whereas a lower figure will suggest a good time for rest. Body Battery has been created to assist users in making sense of their body’s patterns, to demonstrate how behaviors and activities can influence how the body feels at a particular time.
Similarly to the Garmin fēnix 5 range, users will still be just as connected as ever. Users will be able to receive alerts for calls, texts, emails and more straight to their wrist, using smart notifications!
