Operation Overlord: Freedom Defended, Heroism Defined
The Battle of Normandy, also known as Operation Overlord began on June 6th, and lasted until August 30th, 1944. The battle began with airborne strikes from 1,200 aircraft, as well as the descent of 24,000 paratroopers too. Soldiers who were dropped, and parachuted, valiantly, into the heart of the battle. This first day, on the 6th of June, was ‘D-Day’, just the start of the invasion, in which aviation played a huge part. The famous beach landings began in the early hours of the morning, following the nights parachute and glider landings, and massive air attacks.
By July 4th, one million men had landed on the French shores as part of the invasion, and in following months, history was made, and freedom was preserved.
To honor those who fought, lost their lives, and instrumented this extraordinary mission, the BALL Engineer Master II Normandy has been launched. To respect the importance of the paratroopers, pilots and airmen involved in Operation Overlord, BALL have made their Normandy timepiece an iconic pilots watch. Equipped with a circular slide rule, that acts as an analogue computer, this model is a vital aviation device. Crucial calculations can be made by aligning the bi-directional rotating bezel with the inner scale. This timepiece allows for simple mathematical equations, as well as conversions to air speed and distance too, an intelligent tool, perfect for any mission.
