The Certina DS Action Diver Sea Turtle Conservancy 60th Anniversary is set to be released this June to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Sea Turtle Conservancy, created in 1959, which is also the same year that Certina unveiled its very first DS Action Diver watch!
For Certina, the turtle shell has always been used to symbolize robustness and durability, characteristics that all Certina watches aim to deliver, without exception. This is the reason that the Swiss brand chose to use the turtle shell as their own symbol since the 60’s. To this day, the turtle shell can still be found on all things Certina, and almost all of the watches come with this logo on the case back of the watch. However, the turtle shell is much more than just a symbol for Certina, which is why we are seeing the 60th anniversary watch in June. In the past, and now more than ever, the brand has been involved in different significant underwater research projects to help conserve and protect turtles, and all marine life. Currently, Certina are lending their support to the Sea Turtle Conservancy and its Tour de Turtles project. The Florida based company have dedicated their efforts to ensuring the survival of the sea turtle and conserving its marine habitats.
The Certina DS Action Diver Sea Turtle Conservancy 60th Anniversary Watch
The idea behind this piece from the Certina DS Action range is to combine two major themes, one being robustness, the watch would have to be built to withstand different tests, including the test of time. The other theme is the iconic turtle symbol, a huge part of the brand, that they wanted to honor in this timepiece.
This piece definitely meets its first theme, as it has been certified as meeting the ISO 6425 standards of a true dive watch, and to support it’s dive credentials, it also features a unidirectional rotating bezel, Super-LumiNova coated hands and hour markers, as well as a screw-down crown and crew-in case back that makes the watch waterproof to 300 meters (30 ATM). With a 43mm stainless steel case this watch will sit comfortably on the wrist, offering easy movement and rotation, whilst the watch itself is powered by Certina’s automatic Powermatic 80 movement with a fantastic power reserve of up to 80 hours.
The watch would then need to meet it’s second theme, the turtle logo, to do this, Certina have decided that the special edition watch will arrive in a unique turtle shell shaped box, to add a higher feeling of exclusivity and meaning. Not only will it be presented in this special box, but we will also see a percentage of each sale go to the Sea Turtle Conservancy in support of its work in protecting sea turtles and their habitats.
The conservation of our wildlife and oceans has not only been a top priority for Certina, but Oris watches too. We have talked about the conservation projects that Oris are involved with so much this year already, with their ‘The Oceans Project’ and the ‘Go Your Own Way’ mission, which has seen the release of the Great Barrier Reef III and the Clean Ocean Limited Edition which both promote and support ocean conservation projects, to save our oceans before it’s too late, and it is now more important than ever that we start listening to the messages that these companies are giving us, especially with Earth Day 2019 around the corner.
