Some of us wear suits every single day, and some of us might only wear them once or twice a year. But however much you wear one, it always gives you that satisfying sense of style and sophistication every time, especially one that has been tailored to fit perfectly. And it is so important to know about which watches to wear with a suit. A bespoke suit is a thing of luxury, something that all successful men look to own, a true staple of the wardrobe.
If you are looking for a suit to match a watch with, then we would have to recommend Hemingway Tailors, a master in producing bespoke suits, with 90 years of tailoring expertise, who produce some outstanding work for their clients.
Matching a watch with your bespoke suit is one of the most important parts of the outfit. A classy watch can bring an outfit together and really take it to the next level, so it is important to be wearing the right one, something smart and clean, in a complimentary colour will always work best, and give you the look you deserve! We are here to help you decide for yourself, which watches to wear with a suit. Colour is key here, as we will go on to discuss the accessories and how to match, which we see as the most important way to go. But if this isn’t how you want to do things, then we believe that colour is key. Stainless steel will go with anything, which is the beauty of this option, a neutral tone that can be paired with any colour or pattern without creating any clashes or contrasts. However, a large amount of dress watches, or smarter classy watches come on leather straps, so it is important to choose the right colour, we usually advise that matching the secondary colour of the suit to you watch is the best way to do this. So, if it is a blue suit with black lapels, then we would say to go black leather!
One of the most important parts of styling a suit perfectly is actually the accessories and not the suit itself. Whether it’s a tie or cufflinks, shoes or a belt, it’s so important to have everything matching and on point. A watch is a piece that often gets overlooked, but it is so much more important than you’d think, it can add class and style to any outfit, and can really elevate a look.
We are firm believers that all watches can go with a suit if you want it to, but that there are definitely some that go better than others, so we have put together a list of our favourites, and which watch to match with which colour scheme of suit!
Black Belt & Shoes
In most cases, the accessories have to match the colour of each other, rather than the colour of the actual suit. Of course, the suit has to match the shoes and belt etc. but there is a lot more freedom here. The most common of these combinations is either the brown belt and shoes (we will be looking at this next) and the black belt and shoes combo. Black is always a safe go-to option and works so well, and the classic choice is so easy to pair a watch with. We have decided to go all leather here, but any stainless steel watch will go perfectly too when you are looking at watches to wear with a suit!
Firstly we have the Rotary Sherlock watch, as seen in the BBC TV show, Sherlock which is a classic design, that would look extremely smart with any design.
We have also chosen one of the models from the Hugo Boss range, which are all fantastic options for watches to wear with a suit. But here we have a chronograph black leather watch, which is such a smart classy design that is sure to match any black outfit you have, perfect for a job interview or office wear too!
Lastly we have the Movado Ultra Slim, a minimalistic watch that offers so much class without being over the top or loud. With a Swiss movement, this watch is extremely reliable and accurate, so definitely a great luxury watch to impress at a wedding or business event!
Brown Belt & Shoes
The brown combo is also another extremely popular choice for watches to wear with a suit, which works great with black, grey or blue suits and is classed as a much less classic, but much more fashionable combo than black. The thing with brown is, there is not just one shade, there are so many different variations, form the almost black, to the almost white, so it can be quite the challenge to find the exact colour you’re after, but we are here to help you get as close as you can.
First up we have the Gant Harrison, on a brown leather strap, with a stainless steel dial and a rose gold case. This is a very smart design form the formerly american brand, which would really bring come class and elegance to any suit. a really good choice at a really good price.
Next up we have a more luxury watch, from Raymond Weil, the Maestro Automatic, which is a wonderfully crafted timepiece, with a Swiss made automatic movement inside. We think that this watch would be perfectly suited to a wedding day, with it’s patterned dial and rose gold case!
We have also included the Citizen Perpetual Chronograph A-T, as its brown/gold bracelet makes it a great alternative for those who are not interested in a leather strap. This, along with its brown dial makes it perfect for styling with brown accessories, making it blend it, but stand out at the same time. Plus you get all of this fantastic technology all in one watch!
Watches To Wear With A Suit – Ties
Sometimes a bright bold tie is just what is needed to make an outfit pop. Whether its for a laugh, or its just the style you love, then adding some bright colour can really change the look of a suit. So why not match your watch? we often see the pocket square paired with the tie, but not so often the watch. So in regards to watches to wear with a suit, check out our recommendations for a bit of colors below.
First up we have gone blue. One of the more common colours in the watch world, but one that can subtly make a suit pop, more of a subdued colour compared to some, being much closer to black than a lot. We have chosen this Armani Exchange silicone chronograph as it brings a sporty, yet smart style to the party, a watch that could be worn everyday, but then dressed up for that special occasion.
Bering is a brand that creates a number of different colourful; pieces, and for this choice, we have gone for yellow. Great to offset a grey or black suit and just add a splash of colour under the cuff, to match that dashing yellow tie! This watch is from the Max Rene collection and is an interchange yellow silicone strap watch.
We have also chosen a Weird Ape watch, the Kolt Automatic Royal Blood, which is a fantastic colour, which we think is actually worth buying a tie to match! This burgundy red, “Royal Blood” color is such a subdued colour, but would stand out perfectly on a grey suit for example, and is definitely worth checking out.
