Streetwear is huge right now, and has such a massive following both online and in stores. The one thing that on the whole has been left behind, is watches in streetwear. Fan’s of streetwear only have a tiny range of watches that fit into their fashion style. with only a couple of brands catering for their desires. But we are here to show you that this doesn’t have to be the case, and that there are streetwear watches out there, you just need to know where to look.
There are so many hot brands right now, such as Supreme and Palace who have been producing some of the communities most desired pieces for years now. But the mainstream brands such as Nike have also got involved, with so many different Air Max collaborations and brand partnerships being made to further the streetwear vibe, such as the very popular UNDEFEATED x Air Max 97.
This has caused some of the more ‘luxury’ brands to get involved too, we have seen the highly coveted Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection, which resells for an incredible amount, and we have also seen a whole number of Virgil Abloh (Now artistic director of Louis Vuitton) Off-White x Nike trainers which are wild in design, but highly desirable to so many people.
Watches in Streetwear
The number of brands producing watches in streetwear is unfortunately quite low, but this does not mean that they are not out there. The perk of streetwear over most other fashion styles is that there is no one defined style, the range of looks is huge, meaning that the watches you can pair your outfit with is surprisingly wide, with some brands you wouldn’t expect producing some hot contenders.
Casio will most likely always be number one when it comes to watches in streetwear, with the brand already having a number of different collabs already on the books. The most recent of these colabs is the New Limited Edition Era x G-Shock which has recently been announced, the fresh take on the classic DW5600 with popular headwear brand New Era could prove to be a popular one, with the signature cap design being followed through on to the watch.
Huf have also teamed up with Casio in the past, which turned out to be one of our favorite designs. This piece was created to celebrate the streetwear brands 15th Anniversary, and you can read all about it here. We think the design of this watch is really nice, with the digital screen in green, with the Huf logo backlighting to create a fantastic effect.
Pigalle is one of the more luxury brands in streetwear, and this Casio & PIGALLE collaboration came just before Baselworld 2018, a black and white variation of the DW5600 were created in the sleek minimalist design of Pigalle clothing.
As you may have noticed, the DW5600 seems to be the one constant in Casio‘s collaborations, and rightfully so, the base model is a great watch, at a reasonable price point that works with people in street fashion. It allows for variation and design additions whilst maintaining the classic casio look.
Another base Casio model that is perfect for the streetwear image, is A159WGEA-1EF which is an all-gold piece, that is extremely popular. Its small stature, and modern twist on a retro design means that this watch is great for any streetwear enthusiast.
Streetwear is massive all over the world, but we are seeing more and more stores selling this style in big cities around the world, the likes of New York, Tokyo, London etc. are growing with streetwear, and allowing it to flourish. Much like Amsterdam, where streetwear is huge right now, and in some places the watch world is following suit.
Leff Amsterdam, are a minimalistic, modern brand that fits in great with a number of streetwear styles. The minimalistic look means that these watches can be pair with any outfit, with the neutral tones supporting this perfectly. The main usp with Leff, is the unique dial design, where they have the inner ring of indents, or teeth, which adds a completely different look to the piece.
We think that these watches would really elevate any look, especially with the alternative streetwear style that is growing in popularity.
