They are perfect for every occasion.Trust me when I say this, there is a jumpsuit out there for you! Today I will show you some stunning jumpsuits available on the high street. When it comes to accessorising a Jumpsuit there are a few tips and tricks that I will tell you about today which will make your outfit look runway worthy!
Accessorising a Jumpsuit- The History.
Jumpsuits have a long and very interesting evolution in the fashion world, and contrary to the common misconception they did not become a relevant fashion statement in the seventies. Actually, the life of the jumpsuit started back in the 1900’s and it has a very long and relevant history of how it became to be such a well loved item that we all own!
The jumpsuit was not originally a item of the everyday wardrobe but it began where its name would suggest, it used to be worn as uniform for parachutes and gliders, it literally was a suit designed for jumping. Obviously parachuting and gliding out of a plane isn’t exactly the safest career, especially during these times this outfit often became associated to dangerous work and made its way into factories and jobs which consisted of hard labour.
In the roaring twenties this beautiful ensemble was finally established as a hot piece of clothing, which to this day I am grateful for that discovery. The jumpsuit was supposed to be worn as an easy everyday attire, because of the simple materials and effortless preparation it took to wear it. However, the upper class of the 20’s fell in love with this design (can you really blame them?) and claimed it as their own! This amazing addition to fashion was the first step in the modern women wearing whatever the hell they like culture we live in now! As soon as it hit the thirties this outfit became a high-fashion item and was worn all over the western world.
As soon as this attire became gained a place in its established place of fashion, the accessorising began! The flirty thirties took hold and they accessories their jumpsuit with light fabrics tied around the waist, sailor hats big pearl necklaces and matching pearl earrings. As the first world war had just finished these beautiful garments were busting their way between the barrier of the upper class and the rest of the social separations. By simply accessorising a jumpsuit they gave a touch of sophistication to a casual design.
Let’s leap Forward a decade to the fabulous forties where jumpsuits really made an established place in history. During this time the second world war was occurring and the majority of men had to go off to war, which meant the male roles as they were considered back then were left to the women. Jumpsuits were the perfect combination between practical and still feminine, making them perfect for modern life in the war. In this decade jumpsuits (especially after WW2 finished in 1945) became a huge fashion statement. They were accessorised by pearls, hats and then sunglasses with a bold frame (which is actually back in right now). Stripes became apparent in this decade as the look accentuated your legs and gave you an overall slim appearance, but still maintained a level of sophistication.
The fantastic fifties added that touch of flare to a jumpsuit, with flare trousers and daring strapless tops with sweetheart necklines coming into play. Bold colours with little to no patterns were hot in the fifties. Accessorising a jumpsuit consisted of a simple belt either in a brown shade or the same colour as your jumpsuit. Some simple stud earrings would complete your look!
Sexy sixties really took jumpsuits up a notch introducing the amazing bold prints and patterns we know and love today. They cropped the length of jumpsuits to three quarters and showed the world their amazing legs. Accessorising a jumpsuit in the sexy sixties was by one rule. The bigger the better! Big earrings, big chunky bracelets all in bold colours.
From this point onward up until the naughty nineties the accessories and jumpsuits stayed similar apart from changing in to some more interesting cuts and even bigger statements. The naughty nineties brought in the pastels and the casuals. Making their jumpsuits baggier and pastel with a simple tie belt as part of the outfit. The accessories were simple and metallic.
Accessorising a Jumpsuit- Floral Jumpsuits.
Floral Jumpsuits are great! And they are very in this season as well. They take that much loved aspect of floral dresses and put them on something which is more weather durable. Accessorising a floral jumpsuit is fun and can really make an outfit look high-fashion in no time.
Lets start of with dark floral jumpsuits and how to accessories them. This gorgeous halterneck floral blue jumpsuit by H&M is a prime example of this. So when accessorising a jumpsuit that is floral and dark you can do three things.
Firstly, match your accessories to your jumpsuit. A dark floral jumpsuit is a statement, so the idea of not toning down this may sound scary. However, accessorising floral with floral really looks hot. The attention to detail brings the whole style together!
Add this beautiful Ted Baker Zoe dark blue floral watch to your dark floral outfit for that added touch of high-fashion. The eye will instantly be drawn to all of your accessories, spreading out the statement and pleasing the eye with the coordination. This season more is more is very in, and you still have time before the autumn season kicks in, so why not treat yourself!
This watch is beautiful and has a gorgeous floral pattern on the strap. The stainless steel casing encases the gorgeous dark blue dial and the simple silver hands and the small ted baker label is simple and gives this watch an overall look of sophistication.
Another watch to accessorise a darker jumpsuit is one with a pale strap but a touch of darker floral elements in it. Like this beautiful Lipsy Womens White Floral dial watch. The fashionable white leather strap is simple and will work well with any kind of dark floral jumpsuit. The dark floral arrangement would compliment the dark floral pattern of the jumpsuit. Lipsy is a brilliant designer to accompany floral jumpsuits.
Tie the whole dark floral jumpsuit together with a gorgeous black leather jacket, and a bright coloured bag maybe red or yellow to add that extra touch of sunshine to your already bright look. Always match your shoes with your bag to add some symmetry. Lipsy and Ted Baker are both perfect designers for accessorising a jumpsuit.
Light floral jumpsuits are brilliant as the cuts and shapes they come in work well. Because of the light base colour and the light floral patterns on top the cuts can be as interesting as you like and it does not make the garment look cheap. This beautiful Cream Frill Cold Shoulder floral jumpsuit by the amazing River Island.
When accessorising a jumpsuit of a lighter colour scheme you can really add some texture to your outfit. This two-tone watch by once again the fabulous Lipsy will add a touch of texture to your floral outfit without overwhelming it. The two tone amalgam bracelet is a beautiful combination of silver and gold and the silver case has beautiful golden leaves on the face.
Another way to accessories light floral jumpsuits is with matching the pale and pastel colours with more pale and pastel for a softer look. This Ted Baker Pastel watch with a pale pink face and a touch of floral on the pale strap will compliment as pastel jumpsuit perfectly. When accessorising a jumpsuit of the paler style combining it with equally pale colours is as effective as combining bold with bold.
This entire ensemble with whatever shade accessory you decide to go with would look beautiful with a Ted Baker handbag in either a matching pale shade or a metallic style.
