Movado Watches
Movado. Founded in 1881 under the name LAI Ditescheim & Freres SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Achille Ditisheim, a gifted watchmaker, founded the brand and produced all watches by hand along side his 6 employees. In 1983 the company was bought by Gedalio Grinberg and the headquarters was moved to New Jersey.
Movado now create watches for a number of large fashion houses such as Hugo Boss, Juicy Couture and Scuderia Ferrari as well as their own flagship luxury collection.
One of the most iconic American watch brands, possibly best known for its Museum Watch. The Museum Watch was the first and, as of May 2017, the only timepiece ever to be selected for a permanent place in the New York Museum of Modern Art. Originally designed by the artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. This model is very simple and elegant, usually featuring a black dial without any numbers or time markings. The only mark on this watch was the iconic single gold dot at the 12 o’clock position symbolising the sun at high noon.
This single dot is a distinctive feature in many Movado watches. The collection is one of the most popular from Movado, and offers a wide range of beautiful designs. Available on leather straps or stainless steel bracelets, there is a model to fit everyone.

Time visualized with daring and acclaimed simplicity. Nathan George Horwitt, a Bauhaus inspired designer, created the museum classic design 70 years ago. Defined by a single dot at the 12 o’clock mark, which symbolizes the sun at high moon, the design is one of simplicity and beauty, and has many times been acclaimed for its purity, being unrivaled in the history of time keeping. Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was a revolutionary school of art, architecture and design established by Walter Gropius at Weimar in Germany in 1919.
The schools aim was to re-connect art to everyday life, with a community approach to teaching rather than the student/teach style we are familiar with. Its influence on the world was amazing, especially in the USA, where a large amount of artists moved before and during the Second World War.
Last year to celebrate the 70th anniversary of this legendary design, Movado presented the Museum Dial Bauhaus Limited Edition watches for men and women. Drawing on the aesthetic philosophy of the Bauhaus – simplicity, tastefulness, function – and details from Horwitt’s original design, these three numbered, limited edition watches feature the original flat dot dial design rendered in primary colors from the Bauhaus palette.
Available in red, yellow or blue, the primary colours, these models have a striking look, grabbing attention whilst retaining a fantastic classy look. Leather straps and either stainless steel or gold plated cases add an elegance that only the Museum collection can bring.
