The new Mondaine Back light is a innovative new step for the brand made possible by the technicians and designers at Mondaine. ‘The solution is brilliant in its simplicity’ – The brand have given luminous hands a new style and remodel, keeping the thick black style whist completely switching the side of the hands that is coated in the super luminescence. The light bounces off the white dial and charges the hands so that when it is dark the light can then be reflected back off the white dial creating a green / white glow around the hour hands to display the time.
The new back light effect has been designed and manufactured so that it does not effect the dials design or face at all, this ensures that the iconic design of Mondaine is always clear, as it should be. The brand uses a thin foil that has been coated with an extra strong SuperLuminova that has been made is Switzerland, this is the same luminescent paint that is used by Mondaine for their other collections and many other watch brands around the globe. It’s not a material or manufacture process that has ever been used before but the design and style of it is something that is truly unique to watch design and definitely something I’ve never seen before.
Mondaine are a brand that time and time again come up with consistent improvements to their models, there was the Mondaine Evo2 which had a refined design, updated dial and high quality materials. Then there was the Mondaine Essence which has responsibly sourced materials, recycled where possible and the use of sustainable materials wherever possible too. They have also started to put the pay chip into their watches making contactless payment a readily available payment method to all Mondaine watch owners.
