It’s amazing what you can do with technology today. You can carry around millions of books on your kindle, listen to millions of songs around on your iPod and video call someone over the other side of the world on your iPhone! But these are only some of the amazing things that you can do on your smart devices today.
The amazing thing is that wrist watches are becoming smarter with every passing week. The new Apple Watch allows you to call and text using your own mobile number even if you left your phone at home. That is on top of the amazing things it can already do – like Apple Pay, fitness tracking and all sorts of other crazy stuff. But there is another incredible watch which has just hit it’s funding goal on it’s Kickstarter campaign which does something no other watch does. The question is: Would you buy this air conditioning watch?
An Air Conditioning Watch?
That’s right, Aricon – a startup company based in Hong Kong – have come up with the novel idea of the world’s first personal air conditioning watch. It’s a very original idea and one which the company claims could be used for many reasons – including medical, as it can be useful for people recovering from sports injuries. You can set an air conditioning temperature can be set as low as 12 degrees Celsius and as high as 40 degrees Celsius.
The technology inside the watch, called ClimaCon, is very unique and incredibly interesting. The Aircon device sends an influx of cold or heat into the wrist and this helps to create the sensation of the chosen climate for the wearer. The way it creates this sensation is by using a small plate on the wrist strap which tricks the nervous system into thinking the outside temperature is harsher than it actually is. The body then starts to react as though the temperature is what you’ve set on the watch itself. This is pretty amazing and could finally end those disagreements in the office where one person thinks it’s too cold while everyone else thinks it’s boiling!
The watch itself uses an OLED screen which is always on and has three buttons on the face of the watch itself. One button switches the device on and off while the other two buttons can be used to set the temperature. You can use the watch as a regular watch to tell the time, however you don’t get any of the features you see in the newest smartwatches.
How Do I Get One and How Much Do They Cost
If the features of this watch have you all excited then you’ll be happy to know the Kickstarter campaign is still open. You can pick up an air conditioning watch of your own for $79.99 (approx £59.27) during the campaign. Once the campaign is over, the recommended retail price of the watch will be $129.99 (approx £96.32).
Buyers should start to receive their watches around December 2017, provided there are no issues during production. As of the 23rd of September the Aircon device was backed by over 1,400 backers, reaching nearly $125,000 – exceeding the funding goal nearly 20 times with 19 days left to go! Who knows just how many people will back this campaign before it comes to an end.
