The founder of Dietrich, Emmanuel Dietrich was born in Besançon which was known in 1969 historically as the timepiece/watch capital of France. Emmanuel Dietrich began a long love affair with watches and their inner workings which fascinated and became incredibly influenced by his birthplace’s culture of masterful design and technique. Emmanuel decided that it was time for him to leave and head out to Paris so that he could formalise his design education and a few years later he found himself graduating from the prestigious design school the Ecole Boulle. His diploma in Interior Design gave Emmanuel the academic backing that he needed to take his first steps in the product design world.
Emmanuel spent the next 20 years working hard designing for some of the world’s most prominent brands, it was at this time that he felt like he was in his prime and he wanted to grow his self image and artistic scope so he decided to set up Dietrich in a bid to give us an insight into his universe.
“As a designer, an object-obsessed-daydreamer, you spend your life collecting visual impressions. My mind and imagination are saturated with images and experiences that echo and mix ultimately laying the groundwork for my designs. This was the case with the conception of the ORGANIC TIME.
The ORGANIC TIME is the translation of my singular world. It is the expression of my desire for balance, a balance between feelings, forms, sensations and pleasure. It is the culmination of my design signature: delicate but bold, powerful yet sensual. The ORGANIC TIME is more than a desirable object; it is a tool that speaks the same organic language as our bodies. This is the philosophy that generates the ORGANIC TIME, an organically different timepiece.”
Dietrich has a very unique feel and this is a massively popular selling point of the watch. All the elements of the watch from the second ticker to the case design has been inspired by nature and natural elements. The case designs look like they have been bound together and the case is stretched so it is tense and bolted into place with four screws around the bezel. You are able to see into the watches inner workings almost like a cross section of a plant or organism. The array of different style straps allow wearers to customise their watch to suit either an event they are attending or just personal taste.
The OT-5 model has a bronze case which reacts with the wearers hand and environmental changes so that each individual model will effectively adapt and evolve into a truly unique timepiece that you can guarantee no one else has. This is a massively popular model and we have managed to obtain one for us to sell on our store, If you are interested in this model please give us an email or phone call and we can provide you with more information. You can also view the watch here.
