James Macfee is a 30 year old chartered accountant from the Cayman Islands. James is the official Elliot Brown Ambassador for the Race and will be wearing the new Broadstone UTC Clipper limited edition watch. We managed to meet the man himself who kindly gave us a tour of the Liverpool 2018 yacht. James has over 40,000 miles of sailing under his belt and will be on the yacht for the entire 11 month trip. He currently has 335 days logged at sea which means that when he returns he will have almost doubled his sailing career time.
Elliot Brown Ambassador James knew the boat inside and out, making easy work or the ladders and low ceilings throughout as we fumbled and bumped our way through the breathtaking yacht. James showed us the kitchen, bunks, engine room, navigation room, toilets and shower facilities which remind me of my first student bathroom. The team will spend approximately 35 days aboard the yacht on their first stretch to Uruguay as they have a good plan to get them the pole position at the starting gun.
James kindly explained the techniques they use when sailing as well as the safety procedures they have as well as the high standards of personal hygiene that Skipper Lance Shepherd is expecting them to adhere to whilst they are under his watchful and very experienced eye. James is also one of the members of crew who has crazily volunteered to be woken up at any time during the expedition if anyone has a problem or needs assistance and the skipper is busy / asleep.
We wish James and everyone aboard the Liverpool 2018 yacht all the best during their expedition and will be cheering them on from back here in the UK. Remember if you want to keep track of the boats at any point during the 11 month race you can do so by visiting the tracker page here.
