Luxury watchmakers have already spent most of this year trying to respond to the release of the Apple Watch. So far a group of Swiss watchmakers, including Mondaine, have started to produce Swiss Horological Smartwatches. Casio and Tag Heuer are also set to release smartwatches over the next 6 months, too.
It’s come to light today that one luxury watchmaker in particular has taken a very original approach to the competition by creating a two-faced watch.
The Two-Faced Watch
Luxury US watchmaker Nico Gerard are known for specialising in incredibly high-end timepieces, but even they recognise the threat of the smartwatch revolution. In response they have created an incredibly original watch which almost epitomises the phrase “if you can’t beat them, join them.”
The latest range of Nico Gerard watches display the sophistication you’d expect from a high end luxury watch on one side – and an Apple Watch on the other side. For those of us who struggle to decide which watch to wear in the morning, this would look like a welcome addition to our collection.
Until we see the price!
The two-faced watch range is called the “Pinnacle” and starts at $9,300 (around £6,000), the next up is the Skyview Pinnacle which costs $9,500. If you only buy the best of the best and the top of the line then the Sunrise Pinnacle will be for you… well, as long as you’re willing to pay $112,000. The incredibly luxurious Sunrise Pinnacle is made from 18-karat gold including an Apple Watch paid of gold.
If you need a bit more convincing then perhaps the description on the Nico Gerard website will help: “The tranquil morning dew is cool and the fresh air is still. The dawn of a new day glows red with promise. You feel the warmth of the sun’s rays wrap around you as the sun crests the horizon.”
Hmm… I’m not sure I’m willing to pay $112,000 just yet Nico Gerard!
Other Original Watches
If you’re not sold on the Nico Gerard Pinnacle… or $9,300 is a little bit more than you were willing to pay then perhaps you’d like to look at one of the other original watches out there on the market.
The Seiko Astron GPS and the Citizen Eco-Drive Satellite Wave are worth looking at. Sure, it doesn’t have an Apple Watch on the strap, but it does switch to a different time wherever you go in the world.

Conclusion
If you’ve been dying to use the features available on an Apple Watch, but much prefer the style and sophistication of a luxury watch then (as long as you have $9,300 burning a hole in your pocket) the two-faced watch is for you.
