We all love watches, right?
If you’re on this website I’m going to assume that’s true. Unless, of course, you were searching for something completely different and ended up here by accident. If that’s the case, stay! I’m going to show you why this happy accident of ending up on a watch website should end up with you enjoying an amazing watch collection.
For many of us who already love watches, the idea of owning a watch collection is just a natural thing. One watch is good, two watches is better and a hundred watches is just perfect!
For others who love watches and those who just kind of like watches, though. A couple of watches is more than enough, for many people – one watch which goes with any outfit is perfect!
But give me a chance today and I’m sure I can change your mind.
1. A Watch Collection Is Versatile
No matter how versatile your one watch may be, it isn’t possible to have one watch for all occasions or one watch which suits all of your needs. If you want something small and stylish but also something with loads of complications, you’re going to struggle to find it in one watch.
Simply by building a modest watch collection, you can enjoy the small, sleek style watches which suit your outfits, as well as awesome features in chronograph and GPS watches. It also allows you to wear an affordable watch on the daytime, keeping your expensive mechanical watch for special occasions.
If you wear a watch for fashion purposes, this is something something you’ll really appreciate. But if you need your watch to have certain features too, then this is even more important. If you travel around the world for work, then a GPS watch is a must-have! Of course, this GPS watch might not be the kind of watch you want to wear out on a night with your friends. In case, you know, you accidentally destroy it… or take it off for some reason you can’t remember and leave it one of the many bars you visited never to be seen again.
As good as one watch is, if you want a watch for each outfit or to cover every single one of your needs – you’re going to need to start a collection. Or, you know, go and pay a manufacturer to make one specifically….. I think you’ll find the collection more cost-effective – and more fun to build!
2. A Watch Collection Offers Accuracy and Beauty
As we covered in a previous blog post, paying more for a watch doesn’t guarantee you a better watch and it definitely doesn’t guarantee you accuracy. A high-priced mechanical watch will give you a beautiful, eye catching watch – but you’ll probably find that a cheaper quartz watch will keep time much better.
By putting together a watch collection, you can put together a mix of expensive and beautiful mechanical watches to wear on special occasions, as well as a number of cheaper and more accurate quartz watches for every day use.
So, if you have to convince someone that building a watch collection is a necessary expense, not just a frivolous way to throw your money away… this probably isn’t the best one to use!
But it is a very good reason for anyone who wears watches regularly.
3. A Watch Collection Is Fun!
Remember how fun football sticker books were at school? How cool was it when you finally got that shiny David Beckham sticker… oh and the shiny badge stickers. As a young Middlesbrough fan, paying £10 for the Juninho sticker at my local sticker swap shop was probably the best purchase I ever made. Oh, 1996 was such a great year…. what was I talking about again?
Oh yeah, after childhood – how often do we get to experience the fun of collecting things? Sure, if you enjoy playing Ultimate Team on FIFA – you’re good to go. But for anyone else, the joy of collecting ends around the same time school does.
Watch collecting can help to fill that desire that people have to, you know, collect things. You can seek out and buy watches to fill all of your needs – and we all know how fun it is when we try on that new watch for the first time. But we can also have the same sort of fun that we had collecting the stickers for that Premier League sticker book. Expensive mechanical watch – check, GPS watch – check, surprisingly expensive bling-y watch which you’ll probably never wear – check, check and triple check!
Watch collecting is more fun than you can imagine – especially when you finally get hold of that one watch you’ve been wanting to add to your collection for ages. Kind of like that feeling I had when I swapped my spare Tony Dorigo sticker for a rare Fabrizo Ravanelli one… OK, you might not understand how important of a moment that was for me. But believe me, you will when you add one of those Luminox space watches to your new collection.
4. A Watch Collection Can Be Valuable
Although it’s best to buy a watch for looks and use rather than value, many watches do hold their value very well. If you’re collecting rare premium Swiss watches from brand like Rolex, you’ll be guaranteed to get a good return on your investment, especially if you keep them in pristine condition.
Even if you don’t go for rare watches from these brands you can still get a good return if you buy the right watches. Many manufacturers, including Seiko, release limited edition watches. Buying these watches gives you the prestige of owning a watch only a small number of people in the world will ever own, but it also means that you will get a very good price if you ever decide to sell them on.
Of course, it’s must better to keep your collection rather than sell it on. But if you ever do decide to sell parts of your watch collection, it’s not bad to have some watches which can return you a tidy profit.
Conclusion
Versatility, accuracy, beauty, fun and value… what’s not to like?
If you love watches then you’re probably already itching to get started on your collection. Or already have an awesome collection!
But if you only “like” watches then you might need a bit of convincing. Sure, you like to have a nice watch to show off to friends or to go with your favourite suit – but a whole collection sounds like a lot of work.
But having a collection it actually a lot easier than just having one watch. Rather than having to find one or two awesome watches which do everything you want and match all of your outfits, you can buy a lot of different watches which fulfil all of your needs. Instead of finding and buying of that one perfect watch, then having to spend time looking for another one when you accidentally smash it to pieces on a night out, you can have a nice reserve of backup watches ready when that inevitable accident happens.
Do you already have an awesome collection, or are you just getting started on one. If so, leave us a comment below, tell us all about your collection.
If not, what are you waiting for? Get started today!
