Swiss Federal Railways Service Clock Rip Off

When we think of clocks, the last thing we should think of is the clocks on our mobile apps, tablets and computers. Right now however, there is a lot of talk in the clock community on the recent copyright infringement going on between Swiss Federal Railways service and Apple.

With all the recent changes and updates to Apple products, there was of course an extensive amount of updates to the apps as well.

The Apple clock got an update, that uses a design that is trademarked and under copyright owned by the Swiss Federal Railways service.

Shocking how this has happened, just after the dispute between Samsung and Apple. Now Apple is doing the exact same thing they just won for, copyright infringement.

Mondaine Group Owns the Design

As of 1986, the Mondaine Group is licensing the design of this clock being used by Apple. The design can be seen on innumerable clocks and also wrist watches. Other places you can see this simplistic yet remarkable design is at the Design Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The actions of Apple weren’t too impressive and disappointing. They surely are biting their own tongues with their recent court battle.

Since the design is under copyright and trademarked, Apple will have the joy of coming to a mutual agreement with the Mondaine Group and the Swiss Federal Railways to be able to use the design.

Sadly, right now we have no idea how Apple is going to respond and how long they are going to take to respond. Going to be interesting to see this play out.

Whether a licensing agreement is arranged, Apple should of went through the proper process before using the design on their app, especially with the large amount of iPad out on the market. That sure is a lot of design theft if you consider the amount of Apple clock apps there are being used throughout the world.
